Selfless

Fresh out of art school in NYC, I embarked on a journey to the West Coast, driven by a desire to find connection in an unfamiliar place. In a city where I knew no one, "Selfless" emerged as a way to reach out and connect with the strangers who drifted through my periphery. This body of work captures fleeting moments and the essence of people I encountered, particularly the vibrant women who caught my eye.

Using acrylic paints to craft the portraits and textured fabrics to recreate clothing and emblements, I embraced a true mixed media approach. The combination of these mediums allowed me to bring a pop art sensibility to my work, creating pieces that are both visually striking and deeply textured.

The genesis of "Selfless" can be traced back to my habit of sketching fellow passengers on public transit during my school years. In the confined space of a subway car or bus, I would often have mere minutes to capture a person's essence before they disappeared from view. I found myself particularly drawn to women, whose vibrant auras and bold presence inspired me.

Through this series, I aim to present women as strong, confident, and unapologetically bold. Each portrait is a celebration of the diverse and dynamic nature of femininity. For viewers, I hope these works serve as a mirror, reflecting their own strength and vibrancy. I want those who identify as women to see themselves in these portraits, to recognize and embrace their own badass selves.

"Selfless" is a testament to the connections we can forge, even in the briefest of encounters. It is a celebration of the power and beauty of women, seen through the lens of an artist seeking connection in a new world.
